Former President Donald Trump was scolded by the judge in a defamation trial in New York City after grumbling about not having met accuser E. Jean Carroll.
The trial revolves around a $10 million lawsuit filed by Carroll, who accused Trump of defamation after alleging he sexually assaulted her in the 1990s.
Despite a ruling against Trump, the settlement amount is yet to be determined.
“I never met the woman. I do not know who this woman is. I was not at the trial. I don’t know who this woman is,” Trump said.
“Keep your voice down, Mr. Trump,” Judge Lewis Kaplan said.
Trump’s interruptions during the trial led to admonishment from the judge, who instructed the jury to disregard certain statements.
“You viewed your deposition, didn’t you?” attorney Alina Habba questioned Trump.
“Yes, I did,” Trump said.
“Do you stand by it?” Habba asked.
“One hundred percent. Yes,” Trump said.
Habba then questioned whether he denied the accusations in order to defend himself.
“Yes, I did. That’s exactly right. [Carroll] said something I considered a false allegation,” Trump said.
Judge Kaplan then told the court to disregard some of his comments.
Despite the judge’s control, Trump made a final comment upon leaving the courtroom, stating, “This is not America.”
