A bill sponsored by Democrats in Hawaii seeks to ban former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 primary election ballot.
The bill, introduced by state Sen. Karl Rhoads, cites the 14th Amendment and aims to disqualify candidates who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion.
This move aligns with similar efforts in over 30 states to prevent Trump from appearing on primary tickets.
“The legislature finds that citizens of this State have the right to expect that public servants be people of integrity, and not people who have committed actions that threaten democracy or undermine the vote of the people,” the bill reads.
Trump has appealed these decisions to the U.S. Supreme Court, with oral arguments in the Colorado case scheduled for February 8.
