Six bodies were found in a remote desert community in California, with five discovered during a welfare check and a sixth found the next day.
Reports suggest the victims were fatally shot, with one vehicle riddled with bullet holes.
The age and sex of the deceased have not been disclosed, and the cause of death remains unknown.
“We have not confirmed any cause or manner of death or any gunshot wounds,” San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Mara Rodriguez said. “This is a very remote desert area.
The case is being treated as a homicide, and no arrests have been made.
“It’s going to be heartbreaking no matter what the situation is, what they discover out there as far as the circumstances surrounding it,” Rodriguez said.
The bodies were found with evidence markers and bullet casings, and some appeared to have been burned.
The crime scene has been cordoned off, and an update is expected later.
