A woman in California was rescued after spending 15 hours stranded on top of her overturned car in rushing water on a flooded remote road.

She had attempted to cross the flooded road, but her car was swept away, forcing her to swim and climb onto the car.

She lost her phone and belongings during the incident.

“During that time that her vehicle overturned in the water, she lost phone and all other important items not to mention it was a bad coverage area anyway,” Battalion Chief Kent Carlin said.

“You could tell from her condition that she was cold, her hands were discolored, she had been there overnight,” Carlin said.

“The water was significantly rapid when we arrived, I can only imagine that last night it was flowing a little heavier,” he said.

A camper spotted her the next morning, leading to a helicopter rescue.

Despite the cold and challenging conditions, she did not appear to be injured and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
