After winning the New Hampshire primary, Donald Trump used his victory speech to attack Nikki Haley for vowing to continue her campaign in South Carolina.
He criticized her for appearing pleased about the primary results and referenced unnamed scandals.
Trump’s social media posts also condemned Haley for staying in the race after losing.
“I said, wow, she’s doing a speech like she won. She didn’t win. She lost. Let’s not have somebody take a victory when she had a very bad night. She had a very bad night,” Trump said.
“You can’t let people get away with b——-,” he added. “And when I watched her in the fancy dress that probably wasn’t so fancy, I said, ‘What’s she doing? We won.’”
“I don’t get too angry, I get even,” he said.
“Could somebody please explain to Nikki Haley that she lost — and lost really badly,” he posted. “NIKKI CAME IN LAST, NOT SECOND!”
Despite Trump’s predictable but unnecessary grievance-filled reaction, he has effectively secured his party’s nomination, making Haley’s candidacy increasingly irrelevant.
Trump’s outrage at a candidate presenting a second-place finish as a success was widely mocked as ironic, given his own history.
