Elon Musk denied reports that his AI company, xAI, had secured half of its $1 billion investment goal.
Bloomberg had reported discussions of a $15-20 billion valuation, with potential changes.
Musk wrote, “This is simply not accurate.”
Musk refuted the fundraising claims and expressed no current interest in raising money.
He commented, “We are not raising money right now,” on the report.
xAI, distinct from the X social media platform, launched a chatbot called “Grok” to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.
In a statement, xAi said Grok is “modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask! Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor!”
The chatbot was made available to subscribers in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, and other countries.
xAI signed a contract to train its AI model on Oracle’s cloud.
