A woman has sued Panera Bread over its Charged Lemonade, claiming it caused permanent heart damage.
She alleged experiencing heart palpitations and dizziness after consuming the drink, leading to ongoing health issues.
Panera initially marketed the lemonade as “clean and plant-based” with high caffeine content, later reducing the disclosed caffeine amount.
“Lauren continues to experience supraventricular tachycardia with associated shortness of breath, palpitations, brain fog, difficulty thinking and concentrating, body shakes, and weakness,” the lawsuit read.
“Panera Bread, this drink should come with a warning because it’s delicious and will lead to my cardiac arrest,” user Sarah Baus said.
“Based on our investigation we believe [Brown’s] unfortunate passing was not caused by one of the company’s products,” Panera stated.
“We view this lawsuit, which was filed by the same law firm as a previous claim, to be equally without merit. Panera stands firmly by the safety of our products.”
Other lawsuits claimed deaths resulting from the lemonade, which Panera denies responsibility for.
The lawsuits argue that Panera inadequately advertised the drink as an energy drink.
