Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) ended his 2024 presidential campaign after a turbulent eight months, marked by various missteps.
He announced his candidacy late, faced technical issues during his launch, and struggled to gain momentum against Donald Trump.
DeSantis said, “I came in not really doing as much media. I should have just been blanketing. I should have gone on all the corporate shows. I should have gone on everything.”

“We had an opportunity, I think, to come out of the gate and do that and reach a much broader folk. Now, I’m everywhere. I mean, I’ll show up wherever,” he continued.
His campaign was marred by a staffer sharing a video with Nazi iconography, awkward interactions with voters, and a debate detour against Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).
Newsom said during their debate, “There are profound differences tonight, and I look forward to engaging them. But there’s one thing in closing, that we have in common, is neither of us will be the nominee for our party in 2024.”
The campaign ended with a blunder, as DeSantis quoted a line attributed to Winston Churchill that the International Churchill Society couldn’t verify.
DeSantis struggled to connect emotionally with the Republican base, underestimated Trump’s influence, and faced internal conflicts within his campaign.
Ultimately, he fell behind Trump in national polls and chose to suspend his campaign, looking ahead to 2028.
Despite early promise, his campaign faltered due to various missteps and miscalculations, ultimately leading to a disappointing outcome in Iowa.
A DeSantis advisor said, “Every single thing that could have not gone as we had hoped or planned for went horribly wrong.”
DeSantis suffered significantly from a slow start and glitch-filled launch on Elon Musk’s X platform.

DeSantis said, “I would say if I could have one thing change, I wish Trump hadn’t been indicted on any of this stuff.”
DeSantis’ team also faced internal conflicts, financial setbacks, and criticism from Republican circles.
His focus on conservative priorities and clashes with Trump further complicated his bid, contributing to a significant decline in support and fundraising.
