Former chief of staff Dan Hanlon is reportedly gearing up to challenge Rep. Nancy Mace in the Republican primary for her South Carolina seat.

There is strong support for Hanlon, with criticism of Mace’s leadership and decision-making.

Mace and Hanlon had a falling out after Mace voted against Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who has since resigned but is reportedly seeking retribution.

McCarthy has expressed doubt about Mace’s chances for re-election and accused her of lying.

“If you’ve watched her, just her philosophy, and the flip-flopping, I don’t believe she wins reelection,” McCarthy said.

“So, I call her chief of staff … I said, ‘Can you please tell me, I don’t understand. Where have I not kept my word?’” McCarthy added. “[Her] chief of staff said, ‘You have kept your word 100 percent.’”

Mace has faced significant staff turnover and criticism of her leadership.

Hanlon’s previous experience in the Trump administration and insider knowledge could pose a challenge in the primary race, with the deadline to qualify approaching on March 30.
