The emergence of a potential new global threat known as “Disease X,” speculated to be 20 times deadlier than COVID-19, has recently come to light.
World leaders and health organizations have expressed concern regarding the unknown pathogen’s potential impact.
“Disease X represents the knowledge that a serious international epidemic could be caused by a pathogen currently unknown to cause human disease,” the WHO website reads.

“It might sound like science fiction, but Disease X is something we must prepare for,” Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) CEO Richard Hatchett said.
