DeMeco Ryans, the head coach of the Houston Texans, expressed optimism about the team’s recent draft picks, particularly quarterback C.J. Stroud and defensive end Will Anderson Jr.

These rookies have significantly contributed to the team’s success, helping them secure a playoff spot and win their division.

Stroud’s exceptional performance as a rookie quarterback has been a key factor in the team’s resurgence, while Anderson has made a strong impact on the defensive side.

Ryans said, “When I knew we had the ability to trade and get Will [along with] C.J., it was ‘OK, it’s on.'”

“You don’t always get the top guys that you want. So for us to get two top guys, we wanted at two key positions at quarterback and defensive end, that was the start,” he continued.

“Then to come around and get our favorite receiver in the draft in Tank. … I knew that things started to shape up the right way just adding those three guys,” Ryans recalled.

“Watching the guys when they stepped on the field in practice, you get them on the grass and you see who they really are and how they play. And it was special,” said Ryans.

“Nobody has said this, but we should have the offensive and defensive rookie of the year,” Ryans continued.

“Both guys have stepped up big time for us — C.J. with the offense and Will on defense,” said the coach.

Ryans added, “C.J. is the reason why we’re in this position.”

“He’s a special young man and special player and continues to shine. No matter how big the moment is, our whole team is leaning on him, and he has the shoulders to carry the weight,” he concluded.

Tight end Brevin Jordan said, “If all 11 of us are on the same page on the offensive side, are getting into their spot, get into their assignment, we feel like nobody can play with us.”

“Especially when you have No. 7 back there,” he added.

Wide receiver Tank Dell and other rookies have played crucial roles, showcasing the team’s depth and potential for the future.
