Senate Democrats voted down a proposed amendment by Sen. Rand Paul to make future aid to Palestinians contingent on their recognition of Israel, rejection of terror, and release of Israeli hostages.
The amendment was supported by all Republicans but rejected by all Democrats, including Sen. John Fetterman.
The Taylor Force Act already bars direct U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority due to their support for terrorism, but the Biden administration seeks indirect aid avenues.
Paul’s amendment aimed to prohibit U.S. foreign assistance unless specific conditions were met and required a report on the human rights practices of the Palestinian Authority.
This move is seen as an attempt by Paul to restore his credibility on the Israel issue and expose the Democrats’ stance.
