A recent Knights of Columbus-Marist poll showed that 66% of Americans prefer having limits on abortion.
Additionally, 83% of respondents support pregnancy resource centers, which offer support to people during and after pregnancy without performing abortions.
The survey found that 58% of Americans support limits on abortion up to three months of pregnancy, and 40% identify as pro-life, while 58% identify as pro-choice.
The poll also revealed differences in support for abortion limits based on political affiliation, with 85% of Republicans, 60% of independents, and 37% of Democrats supporting limits.
Furthermore, the majority of Americans, regardless of political affiliation, support laws that include exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother.
“This year’s poll makes clear that a consistent consensus of Americans supports legal restrictions on abortion, and an overwhelming majority support pregnancy resource centers, which assist mothers and their children in greatest need,” Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly said.
Despite efforts to discredit pregnancy resource centers, a significant majority of Americans across political affiliations support their mission.
“Once again, most Americans are steadfast in their belief that abortion should be significantly limited, yet laws should include exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother,” Dr. Barbara L. Carvalho said.
“This clear trend found in the annual Knights of Columbus-Marist Poll has continued, nearly two years after the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs decision.”
