The Los Angeles Innocence Project is investigating Scott Peterson’s conviction for the 2002 murder of his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son.

Scott, who was initially sentenced to death row, has had his death penalty overturned and is now serving a life sentence.

The Innocence Project is seeking new evidence, citing violations of Peterson’s constitutional rights.

The L.A. Innocence Project wrote, “new evidence now supports Mr. Peterson’s longstanding claim of innocence and raises many questions into who abducted and killed Laci and Conner Peterson.”

They aim to conduct new DNA testing and investigate witness statements to support Scott’s claim of innocence.

His family has long maintained his innocence and is supporting his efforts for freedom.

Janey Peterson, Scott’s sister-in-law said, “There is no forensic evidence, there is no timeline to this crime.”

“Scott Peterson is innocent, and we are now trying to reverse that,” she continued.

“We are very excited to have the incredible attorneys at the L.A. Innocence Project lend their considerable expertise to helping prove Scott Peter’s Innocence,” said Pat Harris, Scott’s defense attorney.
