The House Homeland Security Committee, consisting of all 18 Republicans, voted to recommend the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The decision followed a hearing on the border crisis, with Republicans accusing Mayorkas of willfully and systematically refusing to follow laws passed by Congress, leading to an unprecedented border crisis.
The committee’s investigations concluded that Mayorkas bears responsibility for the crisis, alleging abuse of power and breaching public trust.

Democrats requested their own hearing, and the White House responded by suggesting Mayorkas has more important priorities.
The House could potentially take up Mayorkas’s impeachment as early as the week of January 22.
