Gina Carano, a former MMA fighter and actress, faced renewed backlash after being announced as a guest at FAN EXPO Vancouver.
Critics aimed to have her removed, citing concerns for the event’s audience.
Despite attempts to “cancel” her appearance, Carano received significant fan support with high ticket sales and a standing ovation at the event.
Global News coverage portrayed the demands in a positive light, making misleading claims about Carano’s past actions.

Carano is known for starring in Haywire (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), and Deadpool (2016).
“One of the few safe spaces that we have no longer feels safe,” one cosplayer said.
“[FAN EXPO Vancouver] should know who is their target audience, being young people, queer people, LGBT people. It was just an enormous slap in the face,” cosplayer Lana Redlich said.
Despite this, FAN EXPO Vancouver refused to remove her and even extended her appearance.
