A mother’s Facebook post about her first-grader receiving a disciplinary notice for saying “Jesus Christ” at school has gained significant attention.
The incident occurred at Hope Sullivan Elementary in Southaven, Mississippi.
The school district stated that while disrespectful use of the phrase could be corrected, a student would not be disciplined for simply saying “Jesus Christ.”
“Please pray for the schools,” Shonna Coleman wrote. “My son got this from school for saying Jesus Christ.”
The mother expressed shock and concern over the incident, emphasizing the potential impact on her son’s school record.
“It’s kind of unfair that he didn’t get a warning,” Coleman said. “It went straight to a write-up. I understand if he did it a second time, and then you write him up.”
The post has prompted widespread reactions and calls for prayers for the school and children.
“This is so sad what is this world coming to,” one Facebook user wrote. “They need Jesus at that school. We must continue to pray for our children.”
“They would have to show me a policy where ‘Jesus Christ’ is deemed as unacceptable language,” another woman said.
