Former Sen. Mitt Romney criticized supporters of Donald Trump, suggesting they are disconnected from reality and will accept anything Trump says.
He also expressed difficulty understanding today’s electorate.
CNN’s Manu Raju asked Sen. Romney “about Iowa caucus entrance polls showing that a majority of GOP caucus-goers didn’t believe that Joe Biden was elected legitimately.”
“I think a lot of people in this country are out of touch with reality and will accept anything Donald Trump tells them,” replied Romney.
“You had a jury that said that Donald Trump raped a woman. And that doesn’t seem to be moving the needle. There’s a lot of things about today’s electorate that I have a hard time understanding,” he continued.
“Never before, not in my lifetime or in all of the history I have read, has there ever been anything like these Never Trumpers who attack, insult, demean, belittle, and lord it over … the voters. Our defiance drives these entitled babies crazy, and it’s a pleasure to watch,” explained the senator.
Romney’s comments stem from his resentment towards Trump’s presidency and his own rejection by the Republican party.
He also dismissed the rape allegation against Trump and defended Trump’s character, claiming he is the most vetted man in history.
Romney’s remarks reflect a deep distrust of the media, Never Trumpers, and the Democratic party.
