Journalist Maggie Haberman received a call from former President Donald Trump, during which he expressed frustration about her reporting in her 2022 book.
Trump engaged with her despite the content, emphasizing his own role as a communicator and defender.
Haberman said Trump will “always engage with a reporter eventually if he sees some reason to.”
“I was writing a story about how politics and the courts are going to converge again,” she explained.
She added that Trump “thinks he’s his own best comms director and his own best defender, and you’ll see more of that, I suspect.”
Haberman also predicted a negative 2024 election campaign characterized by animosity.
“I think this is going to be a pretty bleak campaign on many levels,” she continued.
“I just think that the way our campaigns are fought now are all about who you hate and who hates you back and I think you are going to see that to the nth degree in 2024,” she concluded.
