Florida House Republicans have introduced a bill to limit certain flags in government buildings and schools, potentially banning flags like the LGBTQ+ pride flag.

The proposed legislation has faced strong opposition from LGBTQ+ community members and activists.

The bill, known as HB 901, has been approved by a subcommittee and now needs clearance from the State Affairs Committee before reaching the full House.

The bill reportedly states, “a governmental entity may not erect or display a flag that represents a political viewpoint, including, but not limited to, a politically partisan, racial, sexual orientation and gender, or political ideology viewpoint.”

This move follows a series of controversial initiatives regarding LGBTQ+ people in the state, including laws pursued by Governor Ron DeSantis last year.
