Jaime Ubaldo Obando-Andrade, an Ecuadorian migrant in Chicago, is accused of burglary and retail theft at a Macy’s store, where he allegedly stole a $396 jacket.
Upon arrest, officers found about $3,000 worth of suspected stolen merchandise and a fake driver’s license in his vehicle.
He also cut off an ICE electronic monitoring device.
The DuPage County State’s Attorney emphasized the impact of retail theft on the community and stated that offenders will be apprehended and prosecuted.
“With the new year, our mission to protect DuPage County businesses and patrons remains the same,” DuPage County State Attorney Robert Berlin said.
“Contrary to popular belief, retail theft is not a victimless crime and has a far-reaching effect on the entire community. It is very simple, if you steal in DuPage County you will be apprehended, charged and prosecuted.”
A judge denied pre-trial release for Obando-Andrade.
