E. Jean Carroll’s lawyer emphasized the need for Donald Trump to face consequences for defaming her after she accused him of assault.
Trump, facing a crowded schedule of legal battles, sat in court as jury selection began.
The trial, set to last three to five days, will determine potential damages for Trump’s defamatory statements.

Both sides portrayed the other negatively, with Carroll’s lawyer highlighting threats and harassment from Trump’s followers, while Trump’s attorney argued that Carroll sought attention and career advancement.
“It’s time to make him stop. It’s time to make him pay dearly for what he’s done,” Caroll’s attorney stated.
“Her career has prospered and she has been thrust back into the limelight like she always wanted,” Trump attorney Alina Habba pressing that Carroll “wanted status.” “She wanted the attention,” Habba said.
“It is a giant Election Interference Scam, pushed and financed by political operatives. I had no idea who this woman was,” Trump wrote online. “PURE FICTION!”
“She wants President Trump to pay for the risks she took,” Habba said. “Her career was dwindling and it needed a spark.”
Trump’s attempts to delay the trial and claim presidential immunity were denied, and the judge made it clear that Trump’s previous actions wouldn’t turn the trial into a circus.
