NATO’s Military Committee Chief, Admiral Rob Bauer, emphasized the need for a warfighting transformation of NATO, stressing that the post-Cold War era has led to a more unpredictable and dangerous world.
This shift is attributed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and concerns about potential changes in U.S. relations with Europe under a Donald Trump administration.
In response, NATO members are urged to prepare for the unexpected and focus on effectiveness in order to address the current challenges.
“We need a warfighting transformation of NATO,” Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer said.
“The tectonic plates of power are shifting. As a result: we face the most dangerous world in decades.”
NATO members need to tweak their planning to “an era in which anything can happen at any time, an era in which we need to expect the unexpected, an era in which we need to focus on effectiveness in order to be fully effective”, he said.
Additionally, the UK announced plans to deploy 20,000 troops, fighter jets, surveillance planes, warships, and submarines for NATO military exercises in eastern Europe.
