Eleven Senators supported a resolution by Sen. Bernie Sanders calling for a U.S. State Department report on human rights violations by Israel.
Sanders has criticized Israel’s actions, accusing it of brutalizing the Palestinian civilian population, despite acknowledging that a ceasefire with Hamas is illogical.
The resolution singles out Israel for its military actions and casualties, while omitting the context of Hamas’s use of UN facilities and the distinction between civilian and combatant casualties.
It also fails to address human rights violations by Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.
