MSNBC host Joy Reid blamed the decisive victory of former President Donald Trump in the Iowa caucuses on white Christians, citing their majority in Iowa and claiming they supported Trump because they believed he would help them reclaim the United States as a gift from God.
Reid quoted Robert Jones, president of PRRI, who stated that white Christians see themselves as the rightful inheritors of the country and Trump promised to give it back to them.
She further asserted that racism in the Republican Party was the reason for Nikki Haley’s third-place finish behind Trump and Ron DeSantis.

“‘[White Christians] see themselves as the rightful inheritors of this country, and Trump has promised to give it back to them,’” Reid said, quoting Jones.
“All the things that we think about, about electability, about what are people gaming out, but none of that matters when you believe that God has given you this country, that it is yours, and that everyone who is not a white, conservative Christian is a fraudulent American, is a less real American,” Reid said.
“Then you don’t care about electability. You care about what God has given you.”
“It’s the elephant in the room. She’s still a brown lady that’s got to try to win in a party that is deeply anti-immigrant, and which accepts the notion you can say immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country,” Reid said of Haley.
“She’s getting birthered by Donald Trump, and I don’t care how much the donor class likes her — which will ramp up a lot the better she does in New Hampshire — it’s still a challenge.”
