Perry High School principal Dan Marburger, 56, passed away from injuries sustained in a recent mass shooting.
He was remembered as a dedicated family man and leader, having served at the school since 1995.
Governor Kim Reynolds honored his sacrifice, stating that Marburger bravely protected students during the attack.
The nation's principals mourn the loss of life of Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger, who was originally hospitalized after a school shooting on January 4.

“At approximately 8:00 am, January 14, Dan lost his battle,” wrote his wife Elizabeth.
“He fought hard and gave us 10 days that we will treasure forever,” she continued.
Marburger was described as “more than the Perry High School Principal,” but also “a husband, a father, a grandpa, a son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, and a friend who lives and breathes for his family.”
Marburger’s GoFundMe page stated that he was principal at Perry High School since 1995, which “also means that Dan’s family includes those who have ever walked the halls of Perry High School.”
“Our entire state is devastated by the news of Dan Marburger’s death,” wrote Gov. Reynolds.
“Dan courageously put himself in harm’s way to protect his students, and ultimately gave his own life to save them. He will forever be remembered for his selfless and heroic actions. May he rest in peace,” her statement continued.
The Perry Community School District expressed their “deepest condolences with the Marburger family.”
“Dan was a tremendous leader in our school district and a loving husband, father, and grandfather,” wrote the district.
“Our school community is heartbroken by Dan’s death,” the statement continued.
“For nearly three decades, Dan was ingrained in every aspect of our Perry Community School District environment, and we are feeling the immense loss of a devoted and caring colleague,” it concluded.
The community and school district expressed deep condolences, emphasizing his significant impact.
The shooting resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old student and injuries to seven others, with two still hospitalized.
