Indianapolis Colts team owner Jim Irsay was found unresponsive in his home due to a suspected overdose.
He was struggling to breathe and received medical attention.
The Colts confirmed he is being treated for a severe respiratory illness and asked for privacy.
“Mr. Irsay continues to recover from his respiratory illness,” the Colts stated. “We will have no further comment on his personal health, and we continue to ask that Jim and his family’s privacy be respected.”
“Jim Irsay is currently being treated for a severe respiratory illness. While this unfortunately means he won’t be able to perform with his band this week in Los Angeles, he is receiving excellent care and looks forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible,” the statement added.
“We’ll have no additional information at this time and we ask that you respect the privacy of Jim and his family as he recovers.”
Irsay has a history of addiction and has previously been to rehab multiple times.
His struggles with addiction were highlighted in a “Real Sports” interview.
In 2014, he checked into rehab after being arrested for driving under the influence and possession of controlled substances.
Despite legal issues, he has been an executive of the Colts since 1984.
