The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Apple’s challenge regarding changes to its App Store rules, effectively upholding the lower court’s decision.

This decision follows a legal battle with Epic Games over App Store policies and antitrust allegations.

Epic accused Apple of monopolistic practices, leading to a legal dispute over in-app purchases and distribution. (Trending: 2024 Miss America Winner Crowned)

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney wrote on X, “The court battle to open iOS (Apple’s mobile operating system) to competing stores and payments is lost in the United States. A sad outcome for all developers.”

“As of today, developers can begin exercising their court-established right to tell US customers about better prices on the web,” he continued.

Epic claimed in their court filing that the 9th Circuit’s decision “guarantees severe anticompetitive harm and effectively insulates the most monopolistic tech-platform practices from antitrust scrutiny.”

The lower court ruled in favor of Apple on antitrust claims but found the company in violation of California’s unfair competition law.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals largely upheld this decision, requiring Apple to allow app developers to provide alternative payment methods.

This ruling has implications for app distribution and in-app purchase practices.
