Donald Trump Jr. called the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol a “fake insurrection” and claimed that the “feds” were acting as “tour guides” inside.
However, screenshots of text messages show that Trump Jr. urged then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to get his father to condemn the attack and lead.
He also claimed that the Jan. 6 rioters were unarmed, but the House committee investigating the attack found that many of Trump’s supporters were armed. (Trending: GOP Rep. Mace Clashes Directly With Hunter Biden At Hearing)

“He’s got to condemn this s— ASAP,” Trump Jr. said at the time.
“We need an Oval Office address. He has to lead now. It’s gone too far and gotten out of hand,” Trump Jr. added as the Jan 6 riot escalated.
Trump wanted to let them into his nearby rally and even told the Secret Service to remove the metal detectors.
