White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to confirm whether President Joe Biden spoke to his son Hunter before or after Hunter’s appearance at a congressional hearing.
Jean-Pierre’s statement has prompted an investigation into whether Biden was involved in obstructing a congressional proceeding.
Hunter, accompanied by his lawyer and an associate, appeared at the hearing, where the House Oversight Committee considered holding him in contempt of Congress. (Trending: Anthony Fauci Questioned About Evidence Behind COVID Restrictions)

Jean-Pierre previously told reporters Joe Biden was “certainly familiar with what his son was going to say.”
A reported recently asked Jean-Pierre, “Did the President speak to his son before or after his appearance on Capitol Hill?”
She answered, “I’m not gonna speak to the President’s private conversation with his family.”
“Was the White House informed in advance that Hunter Biden would be showing up at the House Oversight Committee hearing?” asked another reporter.
“He makes his own decisions,” Jean-Pierre replied.
During the hearing, Republican representatives criticized Hunter, and there are ongoing probes into the Biden family’s financial dealings.
Rep. Nancy Mace said, “You are the epitome of white privilege…You have no balls…I think Hunter Biden should be arrested right here, right now, and go to jail.”
“[He] sits here with a smug look on his face and runs away when it’s my turn to talk,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene added.
“He can’t even face my words as I was about to speak to him. What a coward,” said Greene.
