The NSSF reported that there were an estimated 473.2 million firearms in U.S. civilian hands by the end of 2021, with nearly 30 million AR/AK-style rifles in circulation.

In 2021, over 21 million firearms were made available for sale in the U.S., including 12.8 million handguns, 4.8 million rifles, and 3.4 million shotguns.

“Moreover, according to an NSSF press release, there are 28,144,000 rifles in circulation that fit the Democrat’s “assault weapons” descriptor,” the report noted.

These figures were drawn from various ATF reports and the Congressional Research Service.
