Pixar is planning layoffs in the second half of 2024 following box office disappointments like Lightyear and Elemental, which were criticized for their leftist social ideologies.
While initial reports suggested a 20 percent staff reduction, Pixar’s representative stated that the cuts may not be as severe.
The studio is currently finishing ongoing projects before finalizing any layoffs.
This move comes amid broader cuts at Disney, which has laid off over 8,000 employees in the past year.
The box office losses, including those from Pixar’s films, have contributed to this decision, with Lightyear’s performance resulting in significant financial losses for the studio.
