Sen. Bill Cassidy, (R-LA), is introducing the Protect Medicaid Act to prevent liberal states from using federal funds to extend Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants.
The bill aims to hold states financially responsible for providing such benefits without imposing costs on taxpayers from other states.
It also seeks to investigate how states offer Medicaid services to illegal individuals and examines the financial impact on taxpayers.
“Medicaid for migrants will be a magnet for more people to come to that state illegally,” Cassidy said.
“As well as running up their state debt.”
In California, nearly 700,000 illegal immigrants qualify for health care services, costing taxpayers an estimated $3.1 billion.
This bill comes amid a record number of migrant encounters at the U.S. southern border.
