A former Russian mayor, Oleg Gumenyuk, convicted of bribery, had his prison sentence shortened after signing a contract to fight with Russia’s military in Ukraine.
Gumenyuk’s lawyer confirmed his release and reported that he was instructed to report to his military unit.

This move is part of Russia’s efforts to replenish its troops in Ukraine, including deploying prisoners directly from jails.
