A member of the Chinese Communist Party, Chen Tianqiao, secretly purchased 198,000 acres of U.S. farmland in Oregon back in 2015.
The purchase was made through an investment vehicle, and it does not show up in government records of land ownership by foreign investors.
Concerns have been raised about the growing amount of U.S. farmland owned by Chinese entities, with estimates indicating that Chinese-owned farmland exceeds $2 billion. (Trending: Trump Responds To Biden’s Bombing In Yemen)

“In 2015, Tianqiao Chen acquired nearly 200,000 acres of former Crown Pacific timberlands in Oregon from Fidelity National Financial Ventures for $85 million ($430 per acre),” according to Land Report magazine.
“Chen did so via the investment vehicle Whitefish Cascade Forest Resources LLC. In December 2023, Oregon tax records revealed that the 198,000-acre block was currently owned by Shanda Asset Management LLC,” the outlet continued.
Lawmakers from both parties have expressed alarm over this trend, citing outdated reporting systems and lack of auditing.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin said, “Right now, we don’t know the full extent of the risk at hand.”
“Outdated reporting systems and a lack of auditing at both the state and federal level leave us with incomplete information and many questions,” she continued.
Additionally, there are concerns about a significant increase in Chinese nationals attempting to cross the U.S. southern border, with tens of thousands being stopped by law enforcement in the past 11 months.
Rep. Elise Stefanik said, “Communist China is purchasing US agricultural land to subvert our sovereignty, undermine our agriculture industry, encroach on our military installations, and upend America’s rural communities.”
Many of these individuals claim to be fleeing the oppressive communist regime in China.
