In 2021, firearm production in the United States increased by 28.6% compared to 2020, with a 32% increase in the production of rifles categorized as “assault rifles.”

There are now approximately 28.1 million AR/AK-style rifles in circulation in the country.

President Biden, who campaigned against these firearms, has pushed for their ban throughout his presidency, most recently in response to a shooting incident at an Iowa high school.

The data comes from the National Shooting Sports Foundation and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives reports.
