Lamont Finlayson’s daughter, Niani, was tragically killed by a deputy after a domestic incident.
Niani had called the authorities for help, but the situation escalated when Niani said she was going to stab her ex-boyfriend with a kitchen knife, leading to her death in front of her 9-year-old daughter.
“It is very hard to do, because how do you explain to children that their mom is not coming back?” Lamont said. (Trending: Trump Defies Court And Delivers Closing Argument At Civil Fraud Trial)
“I thought she would be at peace,” Lamont said.
“She wanted to live life to the fullest and see me get old. But instead, now I can’t see her get old.”
The family and their lawyer are questioning the deputy’s actions and seeking justice, filing a claim for a $30 million lawsuit and demanding murder charges.
This incident has raised concerns about police de-escalation tactics.
“When you bring a case like this, a common theme applies: We want to see justice,” a civil rights attorney stated.
“So often you hear law enforcement talking about some suspect or criminal, and they forget these are human beings with families of their own.”
The lawyer also highlighted a previous case involving the same deputy, who had killed another Black man years earlier.
