Former President Donald Trump appeared in a federal courthouse for oral arguments on his potential presidential immunity from prosecution.
His counsel argued that Trump is immune from prosecution due to his official duties, citing the Impeachment Judgment Clause of the Constitution.
However, the judges seemed unreceptive to these arguments. The prosecutor contended that a former president enjoys no immunity from prosecution, emphasizing that the president is not above the law. (Trending: GOP Rep. Mace Clashes Directly With Hunter Biden At Hearing)

Trump’s counsel, John Sauer, said, to “authorize the prosecution of a president for his official acts would open a Pandora’s Box from which this nation may never recover.”
Sauer said, “The Supreme Court… describe[s] the allegation that immunity sets the official above the law as ‘rhetorically chilling, but wholly unjustified.’”
“The U.S. Constitution, the separation of powers, the Executive Vesting Clause, the Impeachment Judgment Clause, these are the foundational and fundamental law of our country,” he continued.
The court might rule that they lack jurisdiction to consider the immunity question, potentially forcing the trial to proceed in the lower court.
A ruling is expected in the next several weeks, but the U.S. Supreme Court is likely to consider the immunity issue.
