Deputies in Michigan were praised for rescuing a 74-year-old man from a fire.

The deputies, along with fire and EMS personnel, responded to a home engulfed in flames.

The fire was caused by the victim falling asleep while smoking.

The man and woman were hospitalized, with the man in stable condition.

The deputies were commended for their swift and selfless actions.

“I sincerely commend the valiant efforts of these Deputies in this life-threatening situation,” Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.

“They acted swiftly and selflessly, preventing an even greater tragedy from occurring.”

Additionally, the U.S. Fire Administration advises smokers to take precautions to prevent fires.
