House Republicans are considering launching impeachment proceedings against Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, citing “high crimes and misdemeanors.”
Rep. Matt Rosendale plans to introduce articles of impeachment, alleging that Austin has jeopardized national security, lied about a Chinese spy balloon flyover, and mishandled the Afghanistan withdrawal.
Austin “has violated his oath of office time and time again, and has jeopardized the lives of the American people,” Rep. Matt Rosendale stated, noting that the official “knowingly put the American people in danger and compromised our national security.” (Trending: First Moon Mission In 50 Years Blasts Off)

“Furthermore, the Secretary failed to uphold his oath of office during the Biden Administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan which led to the death of 13 American soldiers and enabled unvetted migrants to flow into the United States,” Rosendale added.
Austin “is unfit for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, which is why I urge my colleagues to join me in impeaching him to protect the American people,” he said.
Some GOP members and former President Trump have called for Austin’s resignation, while Democrats and others seek more transparency.
President Biden has expressed confidence in Austin.
This potential impeachment adds to existing inquiries against top Biden Administration officials.
