Multiple media outlets ran with old and retracted news about Donald Trump being named in the latest Epstein documents, failing to highlight that the accuser had retracted those allegations in 2019.

The accuser, Sarah Ransome, admitted to inventing the tapes to draw attention to Epstein’s behavior and to make him believe she had evidence.

Despite this, media outlets published salacious headlines using old and retracted news from four years ago, prompting author and investigative reporter Vicky Ward to emphasize the complexity of the story and the fear and imperfect memories of witnesses and victims.

“These baseless accusations have been fully retracted because they are simply false and have no merit,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said.

“Very importantly, Sarah Ransome has since said that isn’t true — that she invented the sex tapes because she was so terrified of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell at the time,” reporter Vicky Ward wrote.

“This is why covering this story is so complicated. Witnesses, victims are afraid. People have imperfect memories and sometimes complex motives,” she added.
