A transgender child in Oklahoma, identified as J. Doe, is challenging the state’s conservative leaders in court to have his school records reflect his gender identity.
Despite receiving a court order for a name and gender marker change, the Oklahoma Board of Education and Superintendent Ryan Walters have taken steps to block the change, including passing an emergency order preventing schools from altering a student’s gender designation without board approval.
J. Doe’s lawsuit alleges discrimination and violation of equal protection laws. (Trending: Clintons Scramble To Delete Embarrassing Photo, But Were Too Slow)
J. Doe said, “It’s hard enough to get supportive parents; once you achieve that, you are lucky enough.”
“It shouldn’t be a challenge with the government too,” they continued.
“We’re going to stand against this,” promised Walters
“We’re not going to do the transgender game of back and forth, back and forth,” he continued.
J. Doe said, “If the world was safer towards trans people, it would probably be a different story of who I was comfortable with knowing that I was trans.”
“But really I just don’t know what could happen with people knowing that,” they explained.
He fears potential exposure of his personal information and expresses concerns about the safety of trans individuals.
