The U.S. Supreme Court declined to transfer a case filed by Minnesota against fossil fuel companies to federal court, with the lawsuit alleging that the companies contributed to climate change.
A trio of interest groups had petitioned the Supreme Court to reconsider an appeals court’s ruling, but the case will now move forward in state court.

The fossil fuel industry has argued that these cases should be addressed in federal court due to the global nature of greenhouse gas emissions.
In a separate ruling, the Supreme Court declined to hear a case that would have revived a gold and copper mine project in Alaska, which the EPA had rejected due to adverse effects on a salmon fishery.
