Italian influencer Chiara Ferragni, with 29.5 million Instagram followers, is under investigation for allegedly misleading consumers about charitable sales of branded Christmas cakes.
The investigation, led by Milan prosecutors, also involves the head of the cake company, Alessandra Balocco, and centers on claims of charitable contributions to a Turin hospital.
This development has sparked a broader debate about the relationship between influencers and the products they promote, particularly when charitable donations are involved. (Trending: Fox News Star Accused Of Major Scandal)
Ferragni, who has apologized and pledged 1 million euros to the hospital, has expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation.
“I am calm because I have always acted in good faith and I am certain that this will emerge from the ongoing investigation,” wrote Ferragni in a statement.
“I have full confidence in the work of the judiciary and with my lawyers. I immediately made myself available to cooperate and clarify every detail of what happened as soon as possible,” continued the influencer.
Additionally, Italy’s anti-trust agency fined both Ferragni and Balocco for misleading consumers about the charitable aspect of the sales.
