The 2020 presidential campaign of former President Donald Trump was involved in filing a fake elector certificate for Michigan with the intention of using it to alter the election results.

Internal campaign emails obtained by the Detroit News revealed that Trump’s team saw the fake elector plot as a means to retain power, contradicting Michigan GOP leadership’s claims.

The emails also indicated that Trump campaign staffers submitted the fake elector certificate to federal agencies, and a former Trump attorney, Kenneth Chesebro, has cooperated with investigators in Michigan who are still investigating the matter. (Trending: Sports Icon Dies Suddenly At 56)

“The Detroit News reported that internal campaign emails obtained by the paper showed Trump’s team was deeply involved in the fake elector plot and saw it as a way to hold on to power,” the report noted.

“The reporting contradicts Michigan GOP leadership’s claim that the fake electors were intended to be used only if the courts ruled in Trump’s favor in challenging the election.”

“President Joe Biden won Michigan in the 2020 election by nearly 3%, but an attempt was made to have Trump certified as the winner of Michigan’s electoral votes,” the report added.
