A pileup involving 35 cars and big rigs on Interstate 5 in Southern California resulted in at least two deaths and nine injuries due to foggy conditions.
The crash covered about half a mile of the roadway, and first responders had to deal with ruptured natural gas tanks.

Yesenia Cruz, a driver in the pileup, said, “Everybody just started screaming for help, just like that, and there were little kids as well crying.”
Kern County Fire Department spokesperson Jim Calhoun said, “compressed natural gas, saddle tanks on the side of some [of] the big rigs that were ruptured.”
