Mexican authorities are investigating a gruesome massacre in Guerrero, where two rival criminal groups are fighting for control.

The state attorney general reported finding five burned bodies stacked onto a burned vehicle in Buenavista de los Hurtado.

Local media and social media footage showed heavily armed men piling bodies on a bullet-riddled pickup, with some appearing mutilated. (Trending: U.S. State Passes Personal Pronoun Ban)

The video, which garnered 3.1 million views, could not be independently verified by Reuters, but other widely-shared videos appeared to show the same scene.

Authorities cited a confrontation between the criminal groups of Familia Michoacana and Los Tlacos, but villagers declined to provide DNA samples for identification of the remains.

Mexican authorities issued a statement stating that they were aware of a “confrontation between the criminal groups of Familia Michoacana and Los Tlacos, which have a running dispute for control of the area.”
