Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas criticized Congress for not providing enough resources to his department and dismissed the validity of the forthcoming impeachment proceedings against him.
During an interview, he defended his handling of immigration issues and emphasized the need for congressional action to address the broken immigration system.
Mayorkas highlighted the challenges faced by the Department of Homeland Security, including limited detention capacity and the need for additional funding. (Trending: Sports Icon Dies Suddenly At 56)
He also addressed concerns about the administration’s border policies and expressed a commitment to working with both parties to find solutions.
“I will tell you what I think is a magnet, and it’s a function of our broken system,” Mayorkas said.
“[That] is why precisely I am working with Republicans and Democrats in the United States Senate to deliver a solution for the American people, to deliver a fix to an immigration system that everyone agrees is broken and that is long overdue.”
When asked about the possibility of impeachment, Mayorkas affirmed his dedication to leading the department.
“I lead 260 [thousand] incredibly dedicated and talented men and women at the Department of Homeland Security. I will continue to lead them in advancing the mission of protecting the American people… We do so much for the American people, and I’m incredibly proud to do it,” Mayorkas said.
