J. Michael Luttig, a former federal judge, asserted on MSNBC that the 14th Amendment bars Trump from holding office due to his involvement in the January 6, 2021 insurrection.
Luttig emphasized that Trump’s actions violated the Constitution and obstructed the peaceful transfer of power.
He stated that the issue of Trump’s eligibility has been settled, pointing to Section Three of the 14th Amendment. (Trending: U.S. State Passes Personal Pronoun Ban)
Luttig said, “Every American can read the single sentence of the disqualification clause of the 14th Amendment and understand that the former president violated the Constitution when he attempted to remain in power after his four-year term had lapsed, preventing the peaceful transfer of power to his successor for the first time in American history.”
“Section Three of the 14th Amendment simply could not be any clearer,” he continued.
Additionally, a court dispute over Trump’s candidacy for the upcoming presidential race has reached the U.S. Supreme Court, with oral arguments scheduled for the following month.
