Several universities in the U.S. offered courses focusing on gender ideology and left-wing activism during the 2023-2024 school year.
Examples include classes on Black BDSM Culture, Queer Russia, Bad Sex, and Decolonizing Transgender.
Some courses sparked controversy, such as “Queering God” and “The Problem of Whiteness.” (Trending: Transgender Actor ‘Purposefully Misgendered’ By Airline Employee)
The course description for Princeton’s “Black + Queer in Leather: Black Leather/BDSM Material Culture” states, “We will consider the fragility of archival engagement with these communities by surveying existing BDSM archives in research libraries, community groups, and individuals and their personal ephemera.”
“What is it about ‘casual encounters’ and hookup culture that so disturbs? Why is sex a magnet for anxieties about selfishness and irresponsibility? Why do we think of anonymity and intimacy in sex as mutually exclusive?” asks the course description for “Bad Sex”.
Northwestern University is pursuing the “historical, political, and cultural formation of whiteness in Western modernity visible” in their “Unsettling Whiteness” course.
Davidson College catalog included “Latinx Sexual Dissidence and Guerrilla Translation,” where “Students will study the rhetorics and aesthetic strategies of feminist and queer activist collectives focused on social issues such as immigration, transgender rights, anti-racism, economic equality, anti-speciesim, body positivity, and prison abolition with a pro-pleasure, leftist perspective,” according to the course description.
Tuition costs for these universities ranged from $59,000 to $92,000 per year.
Despite inquiries, the universities did not respond to comments.
